All DD formulas are powders. Most pets love DD sprinkled on their food but many of our pet friends have iffy appetites due to either the medications or the ailments they are suffering from. For these dogs we recommend mixing DD with a small amount of aromatic canned food such as tripe, then hand feeding it. Some people use yogurt, sardines, other mediums or fill empty gel caps.
Always start with a very small amount and build slowly. There is a range of dosing per body weight on the jar, start below this. You can never go wrong by slowly adding something. We even recommend for a 90 lb. dog starting at ¼ tsp (1/4 scoop).
Original and Yeast, Fungal & Mold support all have a 1 teaspoon scoop which is 2.6 gms per serving. SuperBo has a 1/5 tsp scoop which is approximately .5 gms per serving.
The small size of Original and YFM have approximately 60 – 1 scoop servings and the large Original has120 servings. SuperBo has 250 servings.
DD is typically shipped without ice. Once you receive the jar please place it in the refrigerator. Keep the lid sealed. DD is heat sensitive but has plenty of stamina for the shipping process. Although most of the ingredients are stored at room temperature, once combined we like to keep it consistently cooled. Our products are designed to sit at room temp for up to 2 years, but the refrigeration preserves the strength.
We ask always to check with your veterinarian before combining any supplement with a drug protocol. Drugs and supplements have their own interactions. DD has been used successfully combined with many drug protocols over the years particularly with antibiotics and antifungal medications. It is best to use it at a separate time from anything else to prevent interactions.
Yes, but with limitations. There is a reason that DD is expensive – it is a very complex, targeted nutrient formula. When it was designed the formulator had to choose between actives and how they would interact and not interfere. There are some complimentary supplements such as probiotics, milk thistle extract, SAMe, colostrum, and fish oil that are approved. We have also seen the effectiveness of DD reduced by too many combinations.
CBD can be a beneficial addition particularly if your dog has seizures, but it has been proven to increase the uptake or interfere with many drugs. It affects the Cytochrome P450 system in the liver so if you use it and a drug it could cause problems. If you are using and add DD, please use it at a completely different time.
Early on we had one size fits all but quickly realized that it was too narrow of a window. Intact dogs are very susceptible to the hormone influence, and it is easy to disturb this with foods, supplements and botanicals.
Puppies have growth plates that are closing until 2 years of age so one has to be very careful with that – everything, including too much or the wrong exercise and excess calcium can affect this. We recommend only low dose SuperBo or Yeast, Fungal & Mold support at a low dose for puppies age 1-2.
We have customers that have been buying DD for over a decade! Their dogs are now in their teens and still thriving. But many senior dogs are so worn out or sick that they can hardly tolerate anything. Starting with just a dusting of one of formulas can pay dividends and loading slowly.
We believe diet is the foundation for optimal health. There are so many commercial diets available, so it is hard to recommend one. DD was designed to complement any diet. For healthy dogs use your current feeding program if you are having success with it. One can also incorporate one home cooked or raw meal per day to complement a dry diet.
For sick dogs we recommend a low glycemic diet which means low in quick absorbing starches and sugars. Typically, these dogs should have home cooked for at least one meal to help support the immune system.
There are safe add-ons that we recommend such as sardines, goats’ milk, organic plain kefir or yogurt, fresh grated veggies and certain fruits and berries such as apples and blueberries.
Dogs possess the ability to convert sugars into protein, so a high sugar diet is not recommended.
Current mushroom use has skyrocketed. Articles have come out discussing the lack of consistency between batches due to the variable nature of how the mushrooms are produced so it is unknown if it is really helping. If adding DD just use at a different time. It is not known if giving a fungal supplement to a dog with a fungal overload is helpful.
Nutritional and Brewer’s Yeast are in just about every supplement and food that is manufactured. If you have an allergy prone dog or one with a fungal infection, we recommend not giving them extra yeast products while they recover. Healthy dogs – absolutely!
Garlic is simply a wonderful age-old remedy for optimum health. It is an approved component for pet food. Our formulas use a small amount of organic, USA sourced garlic powder. The active ingredient that “could” cause issues is inactive in our formula. Garlic is rich in micronutrients.
Dogs that have anemia or existing red blood cell disorders
